Re: Eardrum

I don't know the resonant frequency of the ear drum or even if it is
relatively the same from person to person. What is usually considered
though, is the resonant frequency of the ear canal/ear drum combo. This is
modeled as a closed-ended pipe. With canal length in the 2.5-3 cm range,
the resonance frequency is in the 3000-3500 Hz range. You can easily hear
the effect by sweeping through frequencies using a good signal generator
driving a speaker that has a reasonably linear response throughout the
500-5000 Hz range.

Subject: Eardrum

The question as to what the resonant frequency of a human ear drum might
be came up in my class yesterday. Does anyone know what the answer might
be approximately?

Thanks, David Abineri
