animated motion in Excel in Mac -thanks! - and guilty!

Martha,

Thanks for all the instructions about the Forms toolbar! In Windows Excel, one
can get to a scroll bar either through the Control Toolbox, or the Forms menu.
There's some slight difference in how the scroll bar functions, which I forget
right now.

And I'm guilty of backsliding on Maple! Now I just use RK2 integrations ( a la
Pat Cooney) for quite complex calculations like the detailed motion of a
Trebuchet. And with a slider (scroll bar) to animate the motion it is really
quite cool.

And I did an Excel RK2 simulation of a driven inverted pendulum for a TPT
article, titled something like 'The Gravity-Defying Pendululm' in Sept. 2002.

For analytical integrations, Maple is it, but Excel can do a huge amount of
other stuff, and with a smaller learning curve.

I have figured out how to do it on a Mac--works fine in both Excel 5 and
Office X:

The slider (scroll bar) control is in the "forms" toolbar.
You don't need to enter (or leave) "design mode" to use it.
Follow Mike's instructions for placing the scroll bar.
To bring up the properties dialog, command click (in Office X) or control
click (in Excel 5) and click on the "control" tab.
Enter values as indicated in Mike's instructions.

I hope I haven't forgotten anything here! Hard to keep my mail program and
my Excel going at the same time.

Question for Mike--does this mean you're not using Maple any more??

Subject: animated motion made easy on spreadsheets

In addition to all the fine stuff at Pat Cooney's site, everyone should
have
a try at an animated spreadsheet.

Here are some instructions on how to do it.
