The message was unreadable to you because Mark has his mail software set
to send messages using Base64 Mime encoding, which some (especially
older) mail programs cannot interpret.  If Mark really wants everyone on
the list to read his stuff, he will switch to something more universal
such as the 7-bit encoding your (Ludwik's) mailer is using or to plain
text with no encoding at all.

If your mail software won't interpret Base64 encoding but you want to
read messages posted out by Base64 aficionados, you can read them at the
Phys-L Archives <http://lists.nau.edu/archives/phys-l.html> using your
web browser.
