Be aware that the word "effect" has two uses: as a noun and as a verb.
I hope this realization effects an increase in your vocabulary, so as to
beneficially affect your speech and writing.
This would be a desirable effect.

I only wish to point out that many folks misuse the words affect and
effect. Since this happens, it is important to strive to use these words
in a way that will not be misinterpreted. Consider how Bob's original post
above would be misinterpreted had the reader used the meaning of affect for
the word effect. Consider how Bob's post would not easily be open to
misinterpretation if the word "causes" was used instead of the word
"effects."

"What word pair comes up as a question most often to word watchers?
Affect/effect. To affect something is to exert influence on it: to effect
something is to make it happen. Effect as a noun is a result or outcome.
By far the most common occurrences are affect as a verb and effect as a
noun. When something affects you, it has an effect on you." (From
"Sleeping Dogs Don't Lay" by Richard Lederer and Richard Dowis.)
