Re: MentorNet (one woman's response)

Pray tell, what part of my post is naive and extreme?

I feared my post would lead to "off topic" posting. I welcome off list discussion about my
post.

bc who like Barbara Kingsolver, thinks capitalism is inherently evil, because it (among
other reasons) appeals to the evil part of human nature.

p.s. In Columbia, since 1986, 3,800 trade unionists have been murdered. That is what I
meant by a capital offense.

This post is obviously not the position of Bob and James.

I suspect many of the members of this list are unaware of what most of the world MUST
put up with (especially women). Corporations are essentially fascist organizations
and the only people who don't directly suffer from this are the managers (and stock
holders). Since Universities are more or less managed by the faculty, they (you) are
unaware of the demeaning nature of working for corporations. Union organizing is
their only defense. That is why union leaders in many countries find it a capital
offense.

I agree - it's not only extreme - it's naive and way off the mark. Unfortunately it's one
of the underlying feelings held by a great many environmental activist. It's one of the
reason I automatically discount much of the data and projections that are touted (they're
usually gross exaggerations) and wait until I have read the original sources before I
decide on an issue. The people who use the environmental movement solely as a club to vent
their hatred of capitalism and corporations do a great disservice to those who are
legitimately concerned about the environment.
