Re: Why Not Give References?

Regards the TPT reference it is:
The Physics Teacher V 35 Sept 1997 pp340-347, Sokolff & Thornton, "Using
Interactive Lecture Demonstrations to Create an Active Learning Environment"

I finally got out of my chair, and remembered that I had the article filed
in an easy to find place. This would be one of the very important papers
that should be available on the Web. I later found that the reference
appears in an archived message. The title does not lead one to suspect that
the results are so dramatic. Student scores on the evaluation only show a 5
to 10% rise (A score of 20% may go up to 25%). But after the ILDs the
scores show a 50 to 60% change (a score of 20% may go up to 70%).

With results like that and a method that can be implemented with very
minimal demonstration equipment and takes little time, why isn't it more
widely used? Later research from an unpublished paper shows that ILD
results are very variable and depend on the implementation. This research
is from an unpublished paper by Wittman, but I can't find the reference to
the web site.
