Tina:

There is a tradition of teaching physical science with kits, including
take-home kits.  A sample curriculum can be seen at
http://acept.asu.edu/courses/phs110/
see the take home experiments and laboratory experiments links near the
bottom of the page.  This course is for future elementary teachers.
