Twisting the bulb in its socket will short the two leads
together quite thoroughly

If a bulb blows out, it has a shorting device which can confuse students.

And even confuse SOME instructors who might stop to think about it!

While cost is a consideration, the pennies saved do not pay for
Pasco low friction carts,
motion detectors ...

But they ARE handy for some chores
(like your creative tri-color optics object!)
