Re: Old Astronomy Textbook

Wow, you're talking about a state of our understanding in astronomy
which would have been almost unrecognizable about a generation later.
I'd add a few things, which may not even be addressed in the book:

- The age of the Earth and Sun
- Evolution of the stars
- Energy sources of the stars

Here's a question: did they believe that "spiral nebulae," such as
Andromeda, were planetary systems in the process of forming? I heard
that somewhere, but haven't been able to confirm it. The nebular
hypothesis has certainly been around long enough.

An former student of mine just gave me a very old astronomy textbook:
...
When thinking about the differences between astronomy in 1889 and now, a
couple of things come to mind:
...
I am sure I could think of more, but I'd love to hear what others have to
say.
