Responses to pathways@k12s.phast.umass.edu, not to the list, please.

During April 18-21, 2002, STEMTEC (Science, Technology, Engineering and
Mathematics Teacher Education Collaborative) will be hosting an
International Conference on Transforming Math and Science Education in the
K16 Continuum. We thought perhaps some of your subscribers would be
interested in the conference. Would it be possible for you to post the
following informational message?

Thanks very much,

Pathways to Change focuses on transforming college math and science teaching
for all students, and especially for the future K12 teachers who will
prepare the next generations of college students. Examples of such changes
are inquiry-based teaching, group work (cooperative learning), alternative
assessment, and the use of educational technology. Another example is the
use of peer teaching or working with younger students to improve student
learning and to stimulate thinking about teaching as a career.

Everyone interested in Pathways is invited to register and participate. The
first day of the conference will be devoted to business meetings for
participants in the NSF Collaboratives for Excellence in Teacher
Preparation. The remaining days will offer a variety of plenary sessions,
breakouts, exhibits, and free workshops open to all participants. There is
an optional banquet on the evening of April 18.

The conference registration fee for all presenters and participants will be
$250 until Feb. 1, 2002. Registration after Feb. 1 will cost an additional
$50 until April 1 and an extra $100 after that date. The optional banquet
will cost $25. Registration includes proceedings on CD, coffee breaks,
and all sessions including the workshops.

Hotel: The Crystal City Doubletree Hotel is conveniently located on the
Metro just outside Washington, DC. Large, attractive rooms are just $119
