Opportunity for writing or field-testing high school physical science activities

Dear Science Educator,

Please pardon any cross-posting of this announcement.

I am seeking people who would like to contribute to a
new ninth grade physical science program in either of
two roles:

* writers of student lab activities

* field testers who can perform lab activities with
high school physical science students.

All contributors will receive remuneration and have
their names listed in the program.

Briefly, here is how the work will proceed:

Writers of Student Lab Activities

The work will be assigned by chapters. You will be
supplied with an early stage of a chapter’s manuscript
or an outline of the chapter, the Writing Guidelines
for the activities, and any resources or ideas we have
thus far for that chapter's activities. After your
ideas for the activities are approved, you would write
the student activities for the chapter, including
answers to all questions and additional teacher notes.
In some cases, the ideas for the activities have
already been determined, so someone will be needed to
write these activities.

The schedule calls for a two-week turn-around from
assignment to completion of the activities for each
chapter.

Field Testers

You will be sent copies of a chapter’s lab activities
with teacher notes. the student and teacher pages for
the activities. The purpose of field testing the
activities is to see how they work as written. It is
important to carry out the activities as written, even
if you have ways to improve them. You will receive a
form to complete and return with your comments on how
the activities went. We’ll also need you to send us
some typical student papers from the activities
(originals or copies).

If you or someone you know would be interested in
participating in this project, please e-mail me at

sci_educ@yahoo.co

as soon as possible. In your e-mail message, please
include the following information:

1) Your name, daytime phone and fax numbers, mailing
address, and e-mail address.

2) The periods of time in 2002 (spring semester,
summer, etc.) that you will be free to work.

3) If you are interested in writing activities, please
provide a resume and a writing sample. Ideally, the
writing sample should be of high school physical
science activities, but any activities you’ve written
would be helpful.

4) If you are interested in field testing activities,
you must be teaching high school physical science
(preferably grade 9) in 2002. Field testing will begin
in early 2002 and continue throughout the calendar
year, so please indicate whether you expect to be
teaching this course during the spring, summer, and/or
fall. It would also be helpful to provide a list of
the topics you cover each month during the year so we
can send you the appropriate activities a few weeks
before your class covers the relevant topics.

Many thanks,

The Lab Editor
