Hi-
        Thanks for the thought.  I was following an earlier suggestion,
and had gone to ol' debbil Microsoft for help.  I was responding to
a letter with a complaint much like mine when a third party chimed in
with reference to a M/S article, describing how to make a "clean boot".
I did that, and <Voila!>.  The trouble is somewhere in the file that
loads startup items.  I made that file inactive, and here I am.
        So much for the local experts with whom I've been consulting
for the last week-and-a-half.
