Would you start teaching about light by making this
proclamation? What is wrong to start with rays (to
solve mirror problems or lens problems, as most
textbooks do), and progress toward more general
models of light?

Yes I do. Just as a lline could be traced as I walk about
my room, a ray can be traced on how the photon(s) travel?
