For an elementary course, you can define:

Final impulse - initial impulse = Constant Force*(final time - initial
time).
This can be your starting point to approximate several examples, such that
your student would understand that some kind of limitations are present in
the definition. Then you are motivating the student to learn more
mathematics.

A transition from based algebra courses to based calculus courses is
possible
if your examples are selected.
