Here's the thing, Jim:
are you proposing that there is no correlation between the lunar
cycle (wrt Earth) and the tidal cycle, or are you proposing there is no
correlation between the Lunar position and the tidal phase?

The latter position is acceptably uncontroversial, but the former
position is doubtful, isn't it?
For instance, the URL that interested you mentioned how well the
New Zealand gyre conforms to the principal tidal cycle on Earth,
after all....
