Re: Location of Alan Cairns's SciEd Site

A related problem is that of "stale dates".  In updating the list of links
to physics departments that I maintain for our transfer students
(http://chat.wcc.cc.il.us/~flemmerh/PEMDepts.htm), I continually encounter
departmental pages with "last updated" dates in 1999, 1998, or even earlier.
Even if the information on these pages has not changed, it would be helpful
to re-date them periodically, just to let readers know that the information
is still current and that the page hasn't just been "abandoned" (though I'm
afraid that is sometimes what has happened).

In my opinion, "linkrot" is a bane of internet communication and
seriously impedes its educational use. It would help if webmasters
would leave forwarding addresses to the new URL's at abandoned or
dysfunctional URL's such as
<http://www-hpcc.astro.washington.edu/scied/physics.html>
and <http://newton.physics.wwu.edu:8082/jstewart/scied/mypage.html> /
"SciEd: Science Education Resources" where "/" means "click on."
