Re: "Thinking Level" of FAA

I assure you the FAA has been talking with El Al for years and years
concerning security and other matters.

But has our FAA adopted any of El Al's security practices?

Showing up 3 hours early for the one-hour shuttle flight from NYC to
Boston rather defeats the purpose.

That's why God made Amtrak, John. Flying between cities from Boston to
DC is a waste of time and money. A traveller can get from downtown DC
to downtown NY faster, cheaper, and more comfortably on the Metroliner
than on the air shuttle.

The El Al approach involves a large component of racism. If it is
not obvious whether you are a Jew or not, you can expect to be asked.

Appearance profiling need not be racist. If bad guys have a
distinguishing appearance, that fact should be used to single them out
for restrictions. If all terrorists were fat, I would have no objection
to being stopped and questioned because I fit that discription. If
anything, it might be an incentive to lose some weight.

In general: In security, as in many other areas: Be careful what
you ask for. You might get it.

I sincerely hope we all get it. It's time we faced reality like the
Israelis, the Italians, the Greeks, and even the Brits. Government's
overarching duty is to protect its citizens. Greater protection means
less convenience.
