Re: Question for Today

According to:

http://www.iah.bbsrc.ac.uk/virus/Picornaviridae/enterovirus/hfmd.htm

"Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease" is what you are thinking of which is caused
by a certain virus and usually affects young children.

"Foot and Mouth Disease", which is the one that animals get, is caused by
a different virus. According to the Secretary of Agriculture (on the
Today show this morning), this disease that is affecting so many animals
poses no threat to any human health.

I believe that 'hoof and mouth' disease, when manifested in humans is 'foot
and mouth' disease. I seem to recall from my husband who teaches preschool
that these are the same virus. I also know that it is highly contagious
among young humans. Periodically they have outbreaks of this which causes a
lot of absences among the students.
