Re: Review of Middle School Physical Science Texts (part 2)

If any of these 12 textbooks are being used in your community, I
encourage you to forward these excerpts to your school administrators,
school board members, high school and middle school science teachers, so
that better books can be selected next time.
cheers,

I donno Jane, before I start (ie continue) ot raise caine with my local MS
administrator, I'd like to know more about this process. My first question
is what are the qualifications of the project's reviewers? None of them
seem to be MS teachers. However, it may well be that MS teachers are not
in fact qualified to judge the value of a MS science text. That in itself
is very troubling. On the other hand if I judge by the qualifications of
the local HS science teaching we here are in deep do do. One of the
project reviewers appears to be a member of this list; maybe an review of
the review is in order. Maybe he could comment.

Another troubling question is are not these texts competently reviewed
prior to publication?? Some of the project reviews are blistering.

What the hell happened???

One is led to the question of the competence of not only the MS science
text authors but of the MS science teachers as well. And while we are at
it how about the quality of the teaching and texts in other subjects? And
if this is the extent of the problem , pray tell who is going to write
Bush's test questions????

We all are in deep do do!
