Re: Ph.D's and telephone booths

The 'phone co's are capitalist organizations, therefore, one may predict
that it is in their interest to have no booths. The income from cell
phones is greater than from booths.

P.s. The socialist government of S. Allende considered making the booth
'phones free in the "poblacions." When an advisor to Salvador pointed
out that their only use, other than to call the emergency services, would
be to shop, he dropped that idea. Local calls were ridiculously
inexpensive anyway, about one Escudo. Bread was subsidized, five Eo, a
daily newspaper ten. A bottle of reasonable wine ten, but one had to
turn in an empty, otherwise it was 110 Eo. This was when the black mkt.
rate was ~ 500 Eo/$. I arrived with a few hundred $'s and left with
about 20 seven months later.
