Re: "tape measure " home runs

Dave, The Baseball Almanac (http://baseball-almanac.com/art_hr.shtml) contains an in-depth piece entitled Long Distance Home Runs by W.J. Jenkinson that addresses this. All major league stadia use a computer program provided by IBM. I think the distance that is calculated is the range the projectile would achieve if there were no stadium in the way.

Subject: "tape measure " home runs

Does anyone know how home runs are measured?  There seems to be to some
debate about different measuring techniques in the American and National
leagues, is this true?

Thanks for any clarification.
