Well -- here's one where Mr. Denker and I agree. I don't even use the
word "cause" in discussing Newton's 2d Law. This thread is one very
good example why -- experts can't agree on which is the cause or even
what "cause" is.

Whether the relationship between F and ma is "most accurately called
'equality,'" depends on what Mr. Denker means by "equality."
"Equality" or some generalization of "equality" (also called
"equality"), which has all the characteristics of "equality," but is
different from "equality"?

1) Yes, my recommendation is to say neither "F causes ma" nor "ma causes F".

The relationship between them is most accurately called "equality" not
"causality".
