Re: historical astronomy question

November 24, 1639 on the Julian calendar corresponds to
December 7, 1639 on the Gregorian calendar. I confirm the
December 4 date of the transit by Starry Night Pro.

So how do you resolve the 3-day discrepancy?

Larry

I can't. I'm looking into my source, an application called "Intercal"
which I have trusted in the past. v. 1.4.1 which I have on my machine
at school tells me David Bowman is correct; November 24, 1639 on the
Julian calendar is December 4, 1639 on the Gregorian calendar. My
machine at home, with a version of Intercal I can't access right now,
tells me it is December 7! I am certainly happy to learn of this
problem. Intercal has not failed me previously.
