Job posting: Director of Laboratories for Physics and Mathematics at Kenyon College

Director of Laboratories for Physics and Mathematics
Kenyon College

This is a full-time professional position in the Departments of
Physics (80%) and Mathematics (20%) with a salary comparable to that of a
beginning Assistant Professor. The Director will report directly to
the chairs of Mathematics and Physics.

The primary responsibility of the Director of Laboratories is to support the
educational missions of the Mathematics and Physics Departments by
maintaining,
supervising, and improving our instructional laboratory program. The
Director
will work closely with all faculty members and the department secretary to
achieve these goals.

QUALIFICATIONS
**************
We are looking for someone with a minimum of a Bachelor's degree in
mathematics,
physics, or engineering, plus suitable additional experience. A strong
background in laboratory practice is required, and a Master's degree, or
equivalent advanced training, is strongly preferred. The Director of
Laboratories will be eligible for continuing education opportunities and
will
be expected to remain current in the latest technological innovations. We
currently make heavy use of C++, Java, Maple, Origin, LaTeX, and SAS in a
networked PC environment, and the Director of Laboratories will be expected
to
become an expert in some of these areas, learning new languages and
applications as needed. A willingness to serve as the Radiation Safety
Officer, after appropriate training, will be considered a plus. The needs
of
the two departments are detailed in the following list. While we do not
expect any single applicant to excel in all of these areas, the successful
candidate's qualifications will substantially address these needs.
