Re: How To Recruit Women to Tech and IT Classes

Hi all-
1. I note that two of the six recent MacArthur Fellows are women:
one is a physics professor at U of Colo, the other a biology professor at
Brandeis. Neither, as far as I have been able to tell, participates in
Physics-L discussions.
2. When I entered law school in 1972, about 10% of the class were
women. Today, I am told, typical law school classes are about 50% women.
What happened? A lot of women started getting mad about gender
discrimnation in the profession; there were student strikes; there were
lawsuits. Things changed. They are not yet equal, but the trend is
toward equality.
Would someone, who is a physicist at heart, <quantify> the
problem, if there is one?
Regards,
Jack

we loved to call ourselves by that great name...Our first memorable
scientific discovery was the law that water and like fluids run downhill,
not up.
