Re: AAPT Vision Process

A Draft Vision Statement:
AAPT will be recognized as the leader in physics education

The Working AAPT Mission is:
To enhance the understanding and appreciation of physics
through teaching

Three Critical Issues:
Increase AAPT's outreach to and impact on physics teachers
Increase the diversity and number of physics teachers and students
Improve the pedagogical skills and content knowledge of teachers
of physics at all levels

I feel that politicization of the AAPT is inappropriate. If the
NSTA is involved then I'm sure that someone is looking after the
store on Critical Issue #2. AJP and TPT as they are now pretty
much reflect what I would like AAPT to concentrate on. I would
not like to see a push to be "inclusive", a buzz word that means
we should be open to harmonizing our teaching with religious
ideas like special creation. It is unclear to me what benefits
attend increases in diversity and number of physics teachers and
students. Perhaps someone else in the group can defend these
goals. As for me, I would rather have one physics for all, with
no special dialects.

I will convey my opinions to the AAPT when I receive the request;
I just thought that this was important enough that it deserves
discussion now.
