Another interesting demonstration possibly - though far less spectacular:
compact some silica sand moistened with waterglass into an interesting shape
(a lawn bunny, perhaps?) and infuse a litte CO2 gas into the sand.

It becomes a rock hard object - made of sandstone in effect.
The process is used industrially for 'cores' to exclude molten metal from
passageways in castings.
It is advantageous to weaken the silicate bond in order to get rid of the
sand from cast-in passageways - so sugar (or mollasses) is added
to the waterglass to provide a caramelized water soluble bond.
