Re: UCLA physics course (non-rant) average grades

Three years ago, the outgoing dean (who I liked very much) did a study
of average grades by department and by professor. He was so depressed
that he never "published" it. But since we were friends, he shared it
with me. My average grade was 2.5 (C+/B- borderline), and I WAS THE
LOWEST IN THE WHOLE COLLEGE.

The average grade given for the whole Music Department was 3.9.
Average for Science was 2.7. The only department close to Science was
Math (2.8) and most departments were above 3.3 with the college average
being about 3.4.

Entrance ACT average runs about 1 or 2 points above the national
average.

(1) Grade inflation is for real.
(2) No wonder students complain about science being hard.
