Re: Orbitals visualized

An extended and heated debate about the alleged observation of the alleged
orbitals has been going on on:
PHILCHEM -- International Society on the Philosophy of Chemistry
<PHILCHEM@VM.SC.EDU>

Has any of you seen, read or heard of the recent article in Nature .. G.
Nogues, A. Rauschenbeutel, S. Osnaghi, M. Brune, J.-M. Raimond and S.
Haroche, Nature 400, 239 (1999), as reported in Science 285, 307 (1999) ..
purporting reproducibly to have observed quantum states or orbitals?
There's currently a debate on the chemed-l as to whether the direct
measurement of wave functions, as opposed for example to electron density,
is possible.
Any opinions you care to offer?
