A bit of a turn, but while we're talking about controversial results and
have somebody from Utah contributing... do you happen to know anything
about the "jelly laser" episode. Perhaps this is all urban legend, but
I've heard that a long time ago some physicists from UU reported
generating x-ray lasing from a jelly. It was then discovered that their
results were based on a bad batch of film, essentially it came with the
spots already there.

Is there any truth to this story?
