Kibbles & Bits

You may have noticed the difficulty of making clear the difference
between quantities expressed modulo 1024 and those expressed in
thousands.
The custom has been to signify thousands in the usual way
(with a small 'k') and to indicate multiples of 1024 with a
capital 'K'.

This note presents a new method.

The kibi- prefix is to indicate multiples of 1024 as in 'kibibytes'
(=1024 bytes, the prefix abbreviated to Ki ).
The mebi- prefix abbreviated Mi signifies 2 to the twentieth power
and gebi- (Gi ) signifies 2^30 of the suffixed descriptor.

(The IEC has apparently approved this formalism)
