I need to add to what Rondo Jeffery said about muon catalyzed fusion.
The effect was first predicted by Luis Alvarez, a former teacher of
mine and a hero. Steven Jones is a highly respected scientist. I
would argue that P & F are no longer such, and the reason does not
relate directly to the nonexistence of the effect they claimed to
see, but rather to their action in holding a press conference which
was transparently intended to extablish their priority over Jones,
at least with the popular press. Rondo Jeffery is geographically
well situated to get the juicy bits. Anything to pass on, Rondo?
