Re: a mime test

John, your original MIME message arrived here correctly also. The x
squared looked like x squared should look.

It appears that LISTSERV handles MIME format correctly in the original
message *only*, but is not capable of reproducing it in the "quoted reply"
portion of a reply message. Probably not in the digests, either.

You might see if issuing the "set mime" command helps your incoming mail.
Prepare a message to LISTSERV@LISTS.NAU.EDU with message text SET PHYS-L
MIME. This will tell the LISTSERV software that you prefer to receive
messages in MIME format. If you want to see what parameters have been set
for your account, send a QUERY PHYS-L message to the same address, and
LISTSERV will send you a return message describing the status of your
account.

Best wishes,

Larry

Ah, but that's it--it is not OK. See the equals signs at the line ends? And
see the x=B2?=20 where there is supposed to be a superscript two? Those are
additional MIME codes that your emailer should strip out. The message I'm
posting now is not in MIME format (I set my mailer that way) so that there
should be no such equals signs at the ends of lines, nor an =20 at the end of
a paragraph.

The mime errors that have been occurring are not major, and I think that's why
many members of phys-l have not complained.

Here is the way that I received your mime message.
It appears to be OK.

How about a non-standard character, like a superscript two? Like
x=B2?=20
