Re: atmosphere and normal force

Have you tried wearing Suction Cup Shoes?

The difficulty with Suction Cup Shoes is that when you try to lift your
feet, it's difficult for the air to get in under the suction cups. This
is because you are trying to lift the entire cup off the ground at
once. But when I walk, my feet sort of peel off the floor, so the air
has no trouble getting in.

In a way, I suppose this whole thing is moot. Before I stand someplace,
the floor is already applying a 5000 N normal force on the air. So when
I stand there, what we really care about is the additional normal force,
which is in fact my wieght. Still, I think it's an interesting angle on
the situation.
