Not according to Hans Solo. To him (Star Wars--episode '4'--the first
movie), it is a perfectly good TIME unit!

Unless he was refering to effective space warp, measuring his ship's
prowess by the apparent distance relative to actual distance traveled.

Is this the official Internet excuse for the obvious misuse of the word

[Can't remember the name of the old 'B' movie, but in one scene the rocket
ship is going out of control so the camera pans down to the control panel
where we see the wildly fluctuating meters--labeled 'WOW' and 'FLUTTER'. At
least the Starship Enterprise has Inertia Dampers to allow it to make
U-turns at near light speeds. ]
