One difficulty with the introductory treatment of 2-D collisions is that the
problem is not specified sufficiently for other than point masses. In real
collisions with objects of finite dimensions, an "impact parameter" needs to
be specified, which describes just how far "off-center" the collision is. Of
course this is of critical determinative significance with billiard balls.
