Maybe it's quibbling to differentiate between light that shines ON
something and light that shines THROUGH something?

But so long as we're quibbling - a stained glass window is 'seen'
because of the light that *isn't* transmitted thru it. If all the
light
were transmitted through it, it wouldn't be seen.

Yet another quibble:
How do we treat objects that are seen because NONE of the incident
light is transmitted through it, something seen only as a silhouette?
