mechanics

quote from a PHYSICS newsletter
-
"to predict the time dependence of the positions and velocities of a
system of particles, one must solve the equations of motion of the
system. Firstly, one must know at a given time, t0, the positions and
velocities of all the objects. From that information, the forces acting
on every object can be calculated." !!??!!

-
(a more careful reading of the article made it reasonable to assume
that the author was considering that the only force was gravitational. The
author also assumed that all the masses were known. Thus the article
cannot be said to be wrong.)
-
The newsletter also mentioned that Leigh Palmer was one of the first
three people to submit the answer to a particularly chalanging
mechanics problem.
