But his quote of Jim's Test Test 2 message *did* contain the same A0 hex
characters that Jim's original message contained. The probable reason why
Allen and others did not see these characters is that the A0 hex = 160 dec
character is a horizontal space (20 hex = 32 dec) character with its
8th (non-ASCII 80 hex = 128 dec) bit set. The character set used by Allen
and probably many others merely displays the "A0" characters as horizontal
spaces.

Note: A0 hex = 80 hex + 20 hex and 160 dec = 128 dec + 32 dec.

The problem does not seem to necessarily have to do with line terminations
unless your mailer doesn't like Jim's long lines, but that is a separate
issue. What I have noticed that the consistent pattern that occurs for
Jim's posts is that where there is intended a sequence of n horizontal
spaces in a row that the first n-1 of them are actually the "A0" character
and the nth one is an ordinary space. Since often two spaces separate
sentences this means that in such places Jim's messages have a "."
terminating the prior sentence followed by a "A0" which is followed by an
ordinary space which is followed by the first letter of the new sentence.
When Jim quotes other people's signature lines that have long strings of
spaces in them they appear in Jim's messages as a corresponding long
string of "A0"s followed by the last space. I have no idea why this is
happening though.
