As I said in a letter to JCST (May '96),
It is beyond dispute that students should have much better preparation
before college, but most of them don't and are not likely to in any near
future. That being the case, it is imperative that they get a foundation
of quantitative skill and cognition in college. It is a national
imperative that they get it.
