The Westinghouse Science Talent Search has a lot going for it. It
requires students to complete research projects and awards scholarships
to the ten judged best in the country. However this contest is now being
abandoned by Westinghouse for reasons that are not too clear at this
time.<

The reason is simple, Westinghouse (which pays for it) is about to not
exist.
