There is a wonderful program which demonstrates phase and group 
velocities, written by Eric Lane. Unfortunately it's an Apple II 
program!

Mike Moloney's Physics Resource Packets page has a very nice animated 
GIF showing a wave packet at

I have programmed some animated GIFs which show some beats with unequal
