Hugh Haskell asked for a reference to Reichert's textbook on Mechanics:
A Modern Introduction to Mechanics, Jonathan F. Reichert, Prentice Hall,
1991, ISBN 0-13-596248-X.
At the time it was published, you could get large sheets with particle
tracks together with a nifty tool for measuring the radius of curvature;
then you could go on and calculate momentum etc. (i.e. simulate the
kinds of measurements done in particle physics). I don't know whether
these are still available.
