Re: Ahh Science.

This capability already exists with ActiveX and Active Desktop. Note
that ActiveX is built into Internet Explorer so I suppose the recent
deal involves migrating it to the Mac desktop too. The official party
line is that "you should have known what was there before you
read/clicked that."

To be fair, though, isn't it kind of silly to blame Bill Gates for
all the problems that complex computing machinery is heir to? That's
a little like blaming Henry Ford when your catalytic converter gets
plugged up. Computers were buggy well before Gates was even born.
Macs are buggy too and he had nothing to do with those. (Not that I
like Bill Gates, you understand -- he reminds me of my dean only
smarter. But let's have some perspective. Bizarre email messages were
invented by Internet Standards committees.)

I'm just waiting for the day when he introduces the email "feature" of
being able to send automatically loaded executable code with a message. I
predict that it will happen the day after the last newbie has finally
learned that email virus warnings are hoaxes. The stage will then be set
for Bill to introduce the capability for email viruses that actually work
but which nobody will believe the warnings until their own computer is
hit. Talk about a workfare program for IS professionals!
