Kowalski points out:
crown glass and flint glass have different values of n, and the rate at
which n changes with lambda is also not the same.


The usefulness of this in making optical systems is that by making lens
systms out of combinations of lenses of each of these, corrections for
chromatic abberation can be made. Most compound lens systems use both.
