I've found RTF very convenient in the past because it will "do" symbols,
figures, anything. Why not try a test.
The end of this message is an RTF file that is both relevant to the a
current thread (work-energy) and will nicely test the feasibility of this
solution. I sent the file to myself using a simple terminal-based email
program, extracted the message and cut and paste the part that was the RTF
file brute force into a plain text file. I subsequently opened it using
Word, WriteNow, and Framemaker all without a hitch. The only thing I'm
not sure about is whether there are cross platform problems. My tests
used a Mac exclusively.
The excerpt is a table from my article with Harvey Leff, "All About Work,"
(AJP, V60, 356, 1992) which summarizes the seven work energy relationships
that are discussed in that paper--two of which were discussed recently by
Al Bachman in the note that started this format sidethread!
I suggest people let me know PRIVATELY whether they are able to decode
the RTF file and I will report back to the list.
John
