I guess I didn't make myself clear enough: The fact that the (standard)
fringe effect is negligible has a one-to-one correspondence with the fact
that the charge on the interior surfaces is distibuted uniformly. If the
interior field is uniform (i.e., no fringing), then so must be the charge
distribution on the interior surfaces.
