I even drug my NeXT cube (yes the hardware came in a cube shape) out of my
closet. Randy Hoffman was the engineer who put
together the Next assembly line. It was tres cool. Robots for quality
control, the actual line only had a couple of workers. It was written up
in Forbes as the state of the art assembly line. When I was on the floor
it was strange. Very quiet. Very efficient. Almost surreal.
Of course the components assembled by the bots could not be easily fit
into the cube (the cube has an open back but no other seams were allowed.
Unlike today's machines where the components can be put in from the side
or top everything had to be slid in the back. So in the next room were
bunches of people slamming the bot created components into the cube.
