Another factor to consider is obsolescence due to inability
to run the latest system. I have a MacII (nine years old I
think) that runs the Mac OS 7.5. How many 386 machines are
running Win95? The old MacII is no longer my primary machine,
and it won't make the next operating system cut, but I sure
got my money's worth out of it.

I got my money's worth out of several Tandy 2000s and still use two of
them, running DOS 2.11, WordPerfect 5.1, Mathcad, DesignCad, Derive,
Postscript, Fortran, and Basic. There never has been a keyboard I find
more comfortable.

My school stuck me with a Pentium with Windows95 loaded on it. I hate it!
My 386 with Windows 3.1 which I have at home is friendlier and faster, and
causes fewer problems with my software. I'm thinking of dumping WinDoze
95 for Windows NT, since there's *some* software I have which insists on a
Windows environment. I'm an iconoclast, and don't like Windows, Icons,
Menus and Prompts (which are for WIMPs). They slow me up too much. And add
mice to that list. Why should I search for that mouse under piles of
papers on my desk, then undergo a test in eye-hand coordination just to
issue a simple command? This is progress? Obviously I'm not a MAC fan
either. I didn't learn speed typing in high school for nothing. It was the
only really useful thing I learned in high school besides elementary math
and shop.
