Modern Science for Primitive Times...

Greetings everyone! Last weekend, a fellow teacher and I went on
a little road trip to Cleveland. The other teacher is our high school
art teacher and I sometimes tease him of being too much of a right
brainer. :-) Although the other day, he asked a rather interesting
question that really got me thinking (I hate it when he does that. :-)).
So I thought I'd pose the question to all of you...it may get your
synapsis snapping.
If you were some how transported back in time (anywhere from B.C.
to early A.D.) with only the clothes on your back and the knowledge in
your head, how could you benefit the "primitive" people? For example, if
you were transported to early North America, long before the white
settlers made contact with the natives, what could you do to benefit the
natives? Keep in mind, the only tool you have is the knowledge in your
head.
I was really stumped. The only things I could think of are guns
(and other explosive projectiles), farming techniques, and with lots of
trial and error, possibly penicillan(sp?), and maybe even know how to
treat small pox using cow pox. Given some time, I might even be able to
make a crude bicycle and better swords...again with lots of trial and
error. :-)
So can anyone think of anything else? Could anyone think of some
medicines that could be made with the crude tools at hand? Better forms
of protection against diseases and rival people? Farming?
Transportation? Could anyone make a tv using two blades of straw, some
bark, and some copper ore...but why bother...nothing good is ever on.
:-)
I'm looking forward to your responses.
